Get the latest swagcode!!!

Swagbucks is at it again! They're having a great hunt for a swagcode worth 1 swagbuck. Check out the blog for all the details.

I'm not allowed to post the code, but I can tell you that the code is very cleverly hidden on CrookedX.com. So go tour the site and I'm sure you'll find it! The Swagbucks blog states that clues will be released at some point. So if you don't find it, keep checking the blog.

Not familiar with Swagbucks? You MUST join. It is a search engine that awards you with swagbucks for the searches that you do. Those swagbucks translate into free merchandise or gift cards.

My favorite is the Amazon.com gift card for only 45 swagbucks. Sooo easy to obtain. Oh and you can even invite friends and get tons of extra swagbucks for that! So far I've received $110 in gift cards.... just since this past August. How great is that???

Organizing Kids' Closets for Spring

I know it's only February and I wanna talk about Spring... but hey, that's what gets me through these cold and cloudy days. Oh, and I'm a fanatic about being prepared and organized.

Does this fit?
So the past week I went through both my kids' closets. I pulled out any of the clothes that they have definitely grown out of and sent them straight into boxes. These clothes will be sold at our next yard sale.

New clothes! Cheap!
Next I pulled out the spring/summer clothes from the back of their closets and from storage bins. These were ALL bought from last year's clearance racks at the end of the summer or sometimes they are things I have picked up on Ebay.

Either way, I love being prepared with clothes for the next season well ahead of time and of course I love that I only paid a fraction of the cost.

Does this match?
I went through each of the kids' spring/summer clothes and set aside the ones that came as a pair in an outfit. Then I looked through the remaining single pieces and tried to match up the tops and bottoms to make outfits. I find this matching step to be very important because too many times we'd get through half a season when I finally realized the kids hadn't worn a few items because nothing matched them.

So now I always try to shop for outfits. When I find a cute shirt on a clearance rack, I immediately start thinking of what it could match and I see if there's a pair of shorts or whatever to match it with.

Easily find a match!
Of course, most times I can't find something in the right size/color right then. And this is where this next step of closet organization comes in. After I set aside all the possible outfits, I get out my camera and take pics of each item that doesn't fit into an outfit. This way I have pictures of each item and I know what I need to shop for in order to complete each kid's wardrobe.

I like to use my cell phone's camera, so that this way the pics are always with me and I can pull it out when I'm shopping in a store and I find a great sale. I can also send the pics to my computer for when I'm shopping online and I don't have my phone handy. This has been a great help.

What else do they need?
Also, while I sorted their clothes, I took note of any other items that they will be needing for the upcoming season. Like this time around I noticed that both kids will need hats, my son will need another bathing suit, and both kids needed a few more shorts/capris.

Hang em up!
After all this sorting, I hung all the spring/summer clothes in the closet, right next to or behind their current winter clothes.

Yes, I keep it all hanging because that's the easiest way for me to see what they have and what they don't have. Also this way the outfits can hang together. This is great for saving time and for when Hubby or whoever is picking out their clothes... they are all right there and paired together.

Another reason we hang their clothes is that it keeps them nice and wrinkle-free. Oh and that reminds me... I know what a kid can do to a drawer of nicely folded clothes in just a few seconds. No thanks. We use the drawers for storing pajamas, sheets, socks, etc. They're much easier to put back in place once they've been tossed about by little hands.

One of the things I really love for kids' closet organization are those infant hanging tab dividers for sorting the hanging clothes. They are great for sorting clothing sizes and seasons. You could easily put a new label on to cover up the infant size with whatever you need.

And that's about it. Next up is shopping the clearance racks for next year's fall/winter clothes for the kiddos. And thankfully we've already got most of this accomplished.

What's on YOUR fridge?

Is your fridge covered in colorful souvenir magnets from fun family vacations? Or is the kids' latest artwork? Or maybe even a shopping list and a few reminders? Or is it just covered in grime?

Let's find out. Today a group of SJ Mom Bloggers, like me, is posting pics for all to see. Heh, that rhymed. Lol. Anyway here's my fridge... (I was tempted to wipe it down and clean off some of the grime, but instead left it in it's "natural" state. Ha.)

So I just have a few select magnets on there. Let's take a closer look... this first one is from my fishy collection. I love tropical fish... well not the real ones... too much work for me.

This magnet is a handmade one my Mom got for me at a craft fair. It's like a little Raggedy Ann. I think it's so cute. And I love supporting local crafters.

This magnet I love and I have no idea where it came from (maybe the dollar store???). It's a cute little bug on a bike and the front wheel spins around. Sometimes when I'm in the kitchen, I walk up and spin the wheel... wooo fun!

This is the Mickey frame magnet hubby and I bought on our honeymoon in Disney World in 2005. The pic was taken sometime before we got married.

And yes, that IS close to four years of dust on there. Occasionally I try to brush some off, but it really needs to be cleaned a little better than that. Who wants to volunteer???

Next up is the Mary's Kitchen magnet that was passed down to me from my Great Grandmother's kitchen. Sorry about the photo quality, glare and all. (I'm obviously a professional photographer.)

The last magnet is a new addition to our fridge magnet family. This is one of the butterfly magnets that my daughter made as Valentine treats for the grandparents, etc.

And lastly, so you don't think my fridge is terribly boring, here's a shot of the side.

This is where I keep my grocery list, my magnet that tells me how long veggies stay fresh, magnets with cooking measurement conversions and a few more fishy magnets, as well as a few of my daughter's magnets at the bottom.

Oh, and there's a magnet with a pic of Hubby, my son and I when we took my son to his first Phillies game last summer. He was only a few months old and strapped to the front of me in a carrier. Good times and they took a cute pic of us! Funny thing too, cause every time we go, they always nag us to stop and pose for a pic and we always say no because we don't want to be bothered. But this time we actually said yes. Glad we did.

Anyway there's my fridge in all it's glory. Wanna play along? Anyone can participate. Post a comment or email me at mysterie811 at yahoo dot com and send me your link. I'll post your link here. Come on, do it, it's fun.

Isn't it fun to take a quick peek inside somone else's kitchen? Check out more fridge pics at...

Repurposed Baby Food Jars

I'm always looking for ways to repurpose things rather than toss em in the trash. It keeps things from landfills and gives us the freedom of having more money, since we have to buy less.

Anyway I really like to repurpose baby food jars and containers since, after two little ones, we've gone through so many.

One of the handiest things I've come up with, is using them to hold small portions of snacks for my kids. Once they each started eating solids, I would fill up the empty baby food jars with the Gerber Puffs or Cheerios or other small baby snacks.

Then when we're going out anywhere where they might need a snack, I can just grab one of the jars and toss it in my purse. Works for me!

Another way I repurpose some of the jars is by using them to hold office supplies like push pins, rubber bands and paper clips.

Oh, and I've also used the baby food jars for holding small craft supplies. Great for holding little things like wiggly eyes, buttons, glitter, beads and eyelets.

What I have gotten from them several times is the big pack of 32 batteries. Comes with 20 AA, 10 AAA, and 2 9V. It's normally $17.99, on sale for $10.99 and only $8.79 with the coupon code.

Not that you'll need it, but they do have a 45-day no questions asked return policy... just to assure you of their quality.

Kids' Butterfly Craft

For Valentine's Day my daughter made these cute butterfly magnets. She gave them to her grandparents, great grandfather and her aunt and uncle.

Anyway, I thought I'd share them with you. They make great gifts, but are also a fun project for the little ones to make and keep for themselves as well.

This is what you need:

construction paper or card stock
pipe cleaner
fuzzy ball
2 wiggly eyes
magnet
popsicle stick
paint
paint brush
crayons
glue
scissors

Directions:

1. Paint popsicle stick. We used a foam paint brush, which was nice and easy. Set stick aside to dry.
2. Cut out the butterfly wings shape. Have child color the wings.
3. Glue wings to popsicle stick. Glue fuzzy ball to top of popsicle stick. (We used a glue gun.)
4. Cut pipe cleaner to about 2.5 inches long. Fold in half to form antennae and glue onto the back of the popsicle stick towards the top.
5. Glue 2 wiggly eyes to the fuzzy ball.
6. Glue/stick magnet to the back of the butterfly. (We used a strip of a sticky backed magnet.)

To give you an approximate age range, my daughter is almost 3. I did the cutting and gluing. She did the coloring and painting and picked out the different color paper, fuzzy balls & pipe cleaners.

In addition, I think these would have been cute with glitter sprinkled on. And of course, you could probably cut out more elaborate wings.

Does Upromise pay you to buy groceries and gas?

Have you joined Upromise yet? Not sure exactly what it is? Upromise is a company that gives you cash back for purchasing things that you probably buy regularly... like groceries, gas, household items, meals at restaurants.

The money that you earn is put into a Upromise college savings account. They encourage you to then use that money for college.... for you, your children, grandchildren or whomever.

You can choose to put the money into a 529 plan or you can request a check to pay towards your student loans, or other education related expenses. This is your money earned, so you choose what you want to use it for once you get your check.

How do they know what you've purchased and how do you get credit? You simply need to register your grocery store cards, drugstore cards, credit cards, and debit cards. Then shop and purchase things as you normally would. That's it.

Every time you purchase eligible items or purchase at an eligible retailer, they automatically credit your account with your cash back. So simple. And it's very secure so there's no need to worry about your personal info.

I have my credit/debit cards registered as well as my CVS Extra Care card and my Acme card. And my Hubby's cards are registered as well. Our accounts are linked together and our savings gets combined.

It may not be loads of money earned and it may take some time, but I don't pass up free money when it's being given out!

Sign up for your free Upromise account here and don't forget to register your grocery & drugstore cards so you can start earning cash back right away.

From burpcloths to washcloths

When I was expecting our first child (who's now almost 3!), I was busy shopping for all the baby basics. And of course I was trying to save money wherever I could.

Anyway I remember reading somewhere that the old fashioned cloth diapers made great burpcloths, as opposed to buying "official" burpcloths at 4 times the cost. So that's what we did and they worked perfectly and lasted through both of our kids.

Since we are done in the baby-making business, I wondered what to do with those old cloth diaper burpcloths. They were never used as actual diapers, so they were still in pretty good condition.

I almost tossed them in the trash, but then I figured I'd just keep them around as cleaning rags. Then one day we ran out of clean baby washcloths. (We use baby washcloths to wipe both kids faces and hands and to wipe down the highchair, booster seat & table after each meal. Saves sooo much money on paper towels and it helps us cut back on excess waste.)

So anyway, we ran out of clean baby washcloths since I was slacking on the laundry. I hated the thought of using paper towels and being so wasteful, and that's when I remembered those old birpcloths. I hadn't used them as cleaning rags yet, so instead I cut each one up into four washcloths!

So now we have an even bigger supply of washcloths for the kiddos and it didn't cost us a dime. For more frugal tips, check out Frugal Friday at Biblical Womanhood.

One of my favorite things is my Entertainment Book. There are tons of great coupons in there that we use. And sure, we have to fork over some money to buy the book, but it ends up saving us so much more.

Some of the coupons in the book that we use are for Payless, McDonalds, TGI Fridays, Jelly Bean Jungle, Deb, Fashion Bug, Auntie Anne's, Adventure Aquarium, Taco Bell, and the Ringling Bros Circus.

Another thing I love about the book, is that we're always discovering great local places that we'd never even heard of. So we get to check out new places and get a discount on them! Not bad.

Anyway, If you're interested in the Entertainment Book, they make different books for all around the country. Before you buy it, just check out their site and make sure there are enough of the coupons that you'll use to cover the cost of the book, and then some. You surely don't want to buy it if you're never gonna use it. But there are sooo many good coupons in these books, that I doubt it'd be a problem anyway.

Note that each book is priced differently. As I said before the book for my area was originally $35... which is on the high end. Many of them were cheaper. I got mine when they had them $10 off... so I paid $25. Right now, it looks like they are all marked 35% off, so that's a good price, with some as low as about $16. Oh, and they have free shipping right now too. So, not a bad deal.

Freebie Alert: Rachael Ray Dog Food

We have two dogs so I love finding the dog food free samples. And many times they come with coupons, which is great!

Anyway, did you know Rachael Ray has her own line of dog food? Yup. It's called Rachael Ray Nutrish. I saw an advertisement and coupons for it in last Sunday's paper.

I checked out the website and signed up for a free sample. The site also states that all her profits go to help animals in need. Pretty cool.
